Professional One to One Advocacy
An Advocate can work with you and support you to:
- speak on your own behalf
- write letters
- make phone calls
- research information
- attend meetings
An Advocate will act only on their clients’ instruction. Their role is to do what the client asks not what they think is best for the client.
Whatever your issue we will always ask you what you want to do before we do anything else.
We can work with you to get in touch with people who provide your services, or services you would like to access.
If you'd like to read some real-life stories about the difference our work can make please follow the links on the right.
We can provide support for people aged 16 or over on a wide range of issues such as:
| Adaptation Care Children Complaints (formal) Cultural Debt Domestic Violence Education Employment Faith/religion Finance Housing | Immigration Leisure Local Authority Medical (non mental health) Mental Health Services Mental Health Act Police/Courts Political Relationships Resettlement Sexuality |
What We Can't Do:
- Benefits Applications
- Benefit Tribunal Appeals
- Employment/Industrial Tribunal Work
- Wills
- Legal Representation or Advice
We can support you in accessing these services but we are unable to carry out the work ourselves.
It is essential that Advocates do not present themselves as experts or advisors. In many cases the Advocates role will be a limited role; possibly referring the client to a more appropriate service.
Not sure if we can help you?
We can support you with other issues too, so if you’re not sure, please contact us and ask!
POhWER services are independent, free and confidential. There is no upper age limit for POhWER services but a lower age limit may apply for some services.
