New Care Quality Commission launches

01 April 2009
The new Care Quality Commission (CQC)is launched today 1st April 2009. The CQC is the new the independent regulator of health and social care in England bringing together regulation of health and adult social care services, whether provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations. THey are also tasked with protecting the rights of people detained under the Mental Health Act.

The Mental Capacity Bill has received Royal Assent today. The Mental Capacity Act 2005, covering England and Wales, provides a statutory framework for people who may not be able to make their own decisions for example because of a learning disability, an illness such as dementia or mental health problems. It sets out who can take decisions, in which situations, and how they should go about this.
