East Sussex Advocacy Service for people with learning disabilities

POhWER aims to provide excellent advocacy support, based on a person centred approach, to people with a learning disability in East Sussex, as envisaged in Valuing People (2001) and Valuing People Now (2009).

Through the delivery of the advocacy service, POhWER will ensure people with learning disabilities are supported to have:

  • Choice and control in your support and your lives

  • Your rights upheld

  • Your voice heard and interests represented

  • Access to information and advice

  • Support, guidance in making broader decisions about your life and overcoming challenges in your daily living

  • We will provide a balance of different types of advocacy support to achieve the above aims such as:

  • Short term 1:1 advocacy to help you with individual issues, access information, services and choices

  • Self-advocacy groups to support you to develop your independence and autonomy and have a say is what is happening in your county and your community

  • Drop in advocacy for advice, guidance, signposting and support
