Hackney Self Advocacy

We support people with learning disabilities to live independently. We encourage people to speak up for themselves or for others who have similar experiences. Self-advocates have access to easy read support materials, mentoring, training and guidance, which help them to gain confidence to speak up for themselves.
We aim to support people to gain greater choice and control:
• To have opportunities
• To be heard
• To exercise their rights
• To have fulfilling lives.
We support people to have their say about the way services in Hackney are designed and delivered. Self advocates are supported to sit on the Hackney Learning Disability Partnership Board and attend meetings, workshops and forums. We are then able to communicate the outcomes of these meetings and forums through our newsletter and DVD presentations.
We offer practical support and a range of materials to enable people with learning disabilities to take part in decisions that affect their lives as equal citizens, both as individuals and in groups.
